Zihuatanejo´s waters are a paradise to the sportsman that enjoys big game fishing such as pacific sailfish, mahi mahi, marlin, wahoo, yellowfish tuna, mackerel and yellowtail, among others

Other species available throughout the year are the roosterfish, grouper, snapper, spanish mackarel and yellowtail jacks

Sailfish are abundant year round, especially in the April-May and November-December time frame.

And, every year, in the month of May, Zihuatanejo is host to the Annual International Sailfish Tournament.

From Zihuatanejo´s pier, one can rent a boat or arrange a fishing charter on vessels ranging from 24-foot pangas to 38-foot sport fishers, guided by a bilingual, expert skipper. Charter costs range from US$120 a day for near-shore excursions, to $250-$500 for deep-sea charter fishing trips (approximately).
